TTS has further strengthened its position as a top supplier of access equipment for RoRo and cruise vessels with the agreement of two major contracts with Aker Yards.
Following its ongoing cruise order for Italian owner MSC at Aker yards in St Nazaire, France, TTS has secured a further contract at the same yard. The new contract includes the design, fabrication and supervision of installation for around 50 items of access equipment to two cruise vessels under construction for Norwegian Cruise Line. This includes side shell doors, horizontal sliding platforms, folding observation platforms, tender embarkation platforms, lifting platforms and hatch covers with a gross weight of approximately 400 tonnes per shipset. There is also an option for TTS to install the equipment, which is scheduled for delivery between December 2007 and December 2008.
The fully-equipped vessels will be 325 metres long, 40 metres wide, and have a gross tonnage of approximately 150,000. They will be prepared for worldwide cruises, including the Caribbean and Europe. They will be delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line during 2009-2010.
Under a second agreement, TTS will design, construct and install 300 tonnes of cargo access equipment to Aker Finnyards for installation into a RoRo/cruise ferry being built at Rauma yard for Tallink Group.
Scheduled for delivery in 2008, the equipment supplied by TTS will include two stern doors/ramps, bow doors, a ‘folding frame’ bow ramp, a hoistable car deck with ramps, passenger and pilot/bunker doors with associated hydraulic and electric systems. The vessel, currently codenamed ‘Cruise 5’, is a further development of the MS Galaxy model that was delivered in 2006. At 212 metres long and 29 metres wide, Cruise 5 will be one of the biggest and fastest cruise ferries in the Baltic Sea, with capacity for 2,800 passengers and a speed of 24.5 knots. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in May 2009.
The contracts build on the established presence of TTS in the Finnish and French shipbuilding industries. TTS is the supplier of cargo access equipment for all six of the newbuild Tallink ships constructed at Aker yards in Finland, as well as for vessels built by Aker for numerous other owners.
“We have worked on many different projects with the yards of Finland and France, which now belong to Aker Group,” said Björn Rosén, sales manager for TTS Ships Equipment AB. “These new contracts further enhance our cooperation and strengthen our relationship with the group.”
